Lest we forget how obsessive about music brilliant bands need to be, Digital Sneakers have captured a moment in the stories of potential alternatives to TV-bred Pop Idols. In Rocklands, we called them Alternative Rock Idols... Rocklands - Live In New Cross is a documentary of a slice of music history that in less than a year has had an inceasingly noticeable effect on new British music, and hasn't even got started yet. It is exciting and inspiring in a way that hours of stylised, choregraphed, karaoke for a panel of judges could never be. Completely different bands, their music, words, clothes and ideas all their own. United by a belief in music. Promising to the point of being self marketing (i.e. people like them without a big budget promotional campaign) and deserving of attention and support. Proving all this true, every act that played Pop Of The Tops club in October 003 has progressed noticably. This is an essential film and set of band profiles - both musically, socially and culturally. Thanks to Xfm for all the Pop Of The Tops plugs and boo to Lewisham Council for pulling the plug on what had the Paradise Bar labelled the CBGBs of SE14 in the national press by removing the entertainment license in July 004.

Pic House Party by Minxy McNaughty (Cloakroom Lady at Pop Of The Tops) - April-003, in West London, Act(i)on Town to be precise, Manic Street Preachers are blaring out of a house with a kicked in front door. It's Zac Needs' (wearing what's left of a white t shirt) birthday, not long after, two bands play a legendary show in his bedroom. His own band, Special Needs, then The Rocks (that's their singer, James, in the red polka dot dress). This surreality is being filmed by music fans involved in the dawn of d.i.y. revolution... Here is pictorial evidence of the fun our future stars will bring. Fast forward to October 003 after many more surreal nights out, at the club Funfairs & Heartbreak in West London and Pop Of The Tops in South East London - the new movement is in full swing. Again, captured by those film making, music loving....Digital Sneakers.
