M.A.S.S. - Bonkers. They were great at their first ever gig. That was a while ago. I hear the music. I see that they are playing all the special events with all the special people. Between then and now they have captured fans and won acclaim. After a recent XFM session, Justine came to Pop Of the Tops with a sampler of their next album. Folks you are in for a treat. Band website.
MY RED CELL - they came, they saw, they got hit by a car, they rocked. It's amazing how many new sounds you can still get from a basic band. These have a wonderful way with a tune. As rock as the Grand Canyon, power to their elbows! www.myredcell.com
THE MIGGS - big songs, I mean huge. Same with the on stage presence. Singer, Mig, is a celestial star. Get close while you can. The only thing left to do is to say you will be far from disappointed. Amazing pop. Contact The Miggs by email while their website takes shape.
NEIL'S CHILDREN raucous big haired rockkkkk punkers tearing up a stage and dance floor near you soon. Definitely New Art Riot. As urgent as they are loud. www.neilschildren.co.uk
SPECIAL NEEDS want to arrive at The Brits in a pink limo. I believe they will. This is pop to scream at and rock to shag to. It often ends in a glorious riot. Word is out, radio is tuning in, and this year they'll remain London's best kept secret no more. www.specialneedsweb.com
Impressive demo from STUPiD ("Dance With Me" / "Chilliesque" / "Numb" / "6ft Under"). Not just dark rocking pop, but SONGS. Along with the highly impressive Black Bikini Alpha and Spacehopper, this Hampshire quartet are proof that well crafted songs delivered with energy will always have a place. www.stupidband.moonfruit.com /
TWISTED CHARM - the man with the white square around his eye is Nathan, but the rest of the band have also beamed down from somewhere else and the songs sound like it. New wave punk art excellence. Worth joining their mailing list for the odd-angled gig announcements alone. Email the band for more news.
WHITE ROSE MOVEMENT - his is fantastic. One night in Sunny Brixton and suddenly a band take to the stage that play music to make you face the stage. Not only that but they look like a cross between Duran Duran and genetic disaster. We don't face away until they have left the stage and the the roar of approval from a sparse but buzzing crowd has died down. What happened?
anyway, that's just a few of the bands. to be honest, seen loads of fab new acts. The Rocks and The Lams were highlights of viewing pleasure. Really enjoyed The New Rhodes, Smother, Johnny Panic too. Seen absolutely loads more great shows this year too. Really enjoyed some demos Hallelujahjohnson, Gwenno among them. So much talent to appreciate. It's good when everybody's tips are different. Things got a bit stale last year in the press and we lost a magazine.

Also in 004, Look out for the rise of The Friend network i.e. Captains Of Industry activity, check out what the URLs on the back of the first Music Tourist Board postcard get up to. It's all part of the Alternative Music Industry inspiring the revolution. New music monthly, Bullit, looks and sounds promising. It's the tenth anniversary of Superior Quality Recordings, Black Velvet Magazine, Richey disappearing and Fierce Panda Records - among much else. Bring back S*M*A*S*H and These Animal Men (possibly re-written out of music history? we'll see) and pretend the word "Britpop" was never coined. ha ha...
If I ever won the lottery, I'd happily put out records
by all the above bands if they needed.
Definitely going to see them in 004...
Digital Sneakers are filming the underground pop explosion. If you have a gig or event that just MUST be documented for posterity, invite them along. Look out for their film on/off stage records of new millenium pop rock glam electro punk art.
Pyrrha - Listen to Nadia and Sara - the Ladies Of The Press, thanks to them I have muchly been enjoying Neil's Children and Special Needs this year. Cheers to Rob from Corporation:Blend for banging on about Bloc Party and Do Me Bad Things fanatically, too.
